EP’ POWERFUL Worm Gear Systems
A worm is configured similarly to a machine screw, but with teeth made to mesh with the teeth of a worm wheel. These tiny precision gears may possess solitary or multiple threads (named starts). With each revolution, a single-start worm will approach the associated worm wheel by one tooth; worms with multiple begins will move the mating worm gear a corresponding number of tooth with each revolution. (e.g., a 2-commence worm will move the worm wheel two pearly whites per revolution.)
Standard worm gear worm wheels feature direct, helical-cut teeth and offer only one point of contact with the worm. EP presents “throated” worm wheels with curved, helical-cut tooth whose curves meet the radius of the worm itself. Throated worm wheels give a much greater speak to area, which vastly increases load potential and longevity.
